Why a blind date with a book makes a great gift

Buying a book for a reader is hard. They've either read it, own it, or have a stack they're already behind on. A Blind Date with a Book gets around all of that. They don't see the title, author or cover until they unwrap it, so they get the surprise of a gift and the fun of finding a book they'd never have picked for themselves.

Every box holds a brand-new book, hand-wrapped with a few hints about the story inside, plus a bookmark, stickers matched to the genre and a snack pack. It shows up looking like a present, because it is one.

    Who it's perfect for

    • The reader who has read everything. We pick books that aren't on every front table, so there's a good chance it's one they haven't met yet.
    • The friend in a reading slump. A surprise takes the pressure off choosing. All they have to do is open it.
    • The person who's impossible to shop for. It's a book, a treat and an experience in one box, sent straight to their door.
    • A long-distance friend. Add a note and it feels like you handed it over yourself.

How to pick a genre for someone else

Think about the last book they couldn't stop talking about. Swoony and happy-ever-after points to Romance. Dragons, magic and slow-burn tension points to Romantasy or Fantasy. Twists and late nights point to Thriller or Mystery. If you really don't know, choose Wild Card and tick the genres they'd hate, and we'll pick from everything else. Still stuck? Our book quiz takes a minute, and you can answer it the way they would.

A surprise book gift for every occasion

    Birthdays

Make it a birthday box for an extra $5. We swap in special birthday wrapping and add a party hat, birthday extras, and a birthday card with a birthday sticker, so it arrives ready to celebrate.

    Holidays and Secret Santa

It's a gift that works for coworkers, book club swaps and the cousin you only see once a year. If you're ordering for a date, leave time for our shipping window.

    Just because

Thank-yous, get-wells, congratulations, or a Tuesday. A book in the mail is a good surprise on any day.

Gifting a Blind Date: your questions

What is a Blind Date with a Book gift?

It's a brand-new book, hand-wrapped so the title, author and cover stay hidden, with only a few hints about the story inside. You choose the genre and we send it straight to the person you're gifting, with your note, a bookmark, stickers and a snack pack.

Can I send it directly to the person I'm gifting?

Yes. Tap Add their address and we fill it in as the shipping address at checkout. You can check it there before you pay. Your order confirmation still comes to you.

Will they know which book it is?

Not until they unwrap it. The wrapping only gives a few hints about the story, so the book is a surprise for them, and for you too.

Can I include a personal message?

Yes. Write a note of up to 200 characters and we'll put it on a card in their box. Add your name in the From field so they know who it's from.

Can I send it as a birthday gift?

Yes. Tick Make it a birthday box for an extra $5 and we'll add special birthday wrapping, a party hat, birthday extras, and a birthday card with a birthday sticker. Your gift note still goes in too.

What if I don't know what genre they like?

Choose Wild Card and we'll pick the genre for them. Tap Set reading preferences to tell us any genres or themes they'd hate, and we'll never send a book that hits one. If you'd rather they choose, send a gift card instead.

What comes in a Blind Date box?

A brand-new hand-wrapped book, a bookmark, stickers matched to the genre, and a snack pack.

A typical snack pack might hold chips, candy, teas or a hot cocoa mix, alongside a self-care extra or two like face masks, eye masks, candles or bath and beauty bits. Packs change with the seasons.

Are the books new or used?

All the books we ship out are new and come direct from publishers, authors or book distributors. We never send used books.

What if they already own the book?

We do our best to avoid common titles and keep our selections fresh, but there's always a chance. If it happens, they or you can email support@blindlybooks.com and we'll make it right.

    How long does shipping take?

Orders typically ship within 8 to 10 business days. Delivery times vary by location, but most U.S. orders arrive within a week. We're a small team and try our best to get every order out as quickly as possible, so if you're gifting for a date, order early.

    Is this a subscription?

No. A gift from this page is a single, one-time Blind Date. Nothing renews and nobody is signed up for anything.

What if I have more questions?

You can reach us anytime at support@blindlybooks.com. We're always happy to help.
